Looking Back: The Start

Rock House Kids is celebrating 25 years of ministry to Rockford’s inner-city kids in 2024!

Did you know Rock House Kids started out as a church called Rock House Ministries?

It began in 1999 under the leadership of our founder, Dola Gregory, in a former shoe store (now known as Katie’s Cup), at 506 7th Street, with just one child as part of a church ministry for the homeless. Over the next few years we would accept children of all ages, including infants.

The ministry then moved to the current location in the first section of our building, an old factory building at 1321 7th Street in 2000.

Over the next few years, youth activities began and a pantry was started to give out food bags to the kids.

In 2005, we became a 501(c)(3) organization ministering exclusively to kids, and our name officially changed to Rock House Kids.
