Weekly Programs

The kids of Rock House

On Monday and Wednesday nights at  Rock House Kids 200+ at risk children come through our doors each week. We focus on first graders through sixth graders. We start by feeding the kids a hot meal. We then gather all together to sing,  receive announcements, and hear an encouraging word from Dola Gregory, one of our Adult Leaders or the video curriculum that we have donated to us. We then break into age appropriate small groups and teach the kids Biblically based principles like honesty, patience, faithfulness, and generosity. Our volunteers who teach and build relationships with these children are what makes Rock House Kids the success that it is. The at risk children we see each week are in desperate need of mentors like these.

On Tuesday nights, we are open just for Teens (seventh grade through high school)! We have separate volunteers who teach the teens moral character traits, advise them on how to staying in school, what options are available after they graduate, and family planning.

After lesson time is over, we send them home with bags full of kid friendly single serving non perishable items to have throughout the week to help them with their nutritional needs.

Also offered is free tutoring during the school year. We offer this before we start our Monday and Wednesday programs. The kids can receive help with their school work with those volunteers that come each week. All free of charge! Having a one on one tutoring session helps the child meet special needs that they might not be able to receive at home or elsewhere. We have seen so many children’s grade improve. When a child shows us an improvement in their report card, we make sure to reward them!

  • I’m from Cherry Valley UM. Have a study group interested in what kind of items you need for the winter.

    • Greetings Mary Lou! I think we have already spoken by phone but we accept many things through the winter months such as: lotions, chap sticks, blankets, winter coats (kids sizes), mittens and gloves. We are able to share these items directly with the kids. Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

  • Hello, I’m surprised you don’t have more people commenting on here. I seen your Ministry on Channel 23 news a little while back, and I would just like to say how great I think you all are for volunteering and helping our city kids in need!! I will try and donate as much as I can, and please know that I am keeping you in prayer for more help and strength for you all! God bless all of you and thank you!

    • Thank you Jennifer! What a wonderful comment! We seem to be one of the “best kept secrets” in Rockford. Dola Gregory, our Founder and CEO, and I do a lot of public speaking and getting the word out about Rock House Kids. It helps to have people like you say wonderful things about us. We offer tours of our facility when children are not here at our programs so if you would ever want a tour just let me know. We are happy to share what we are all about and can do a presentation here at our facility or go to an organization and speak there.
Thanks again for your kind words. We appreciate you! Have a great day. Barb Seaworth, Executive Director’s Assistant
