My name is Megan, I first learned of Rock House Kids when my mom (Dee Lacny) began working there. I originally did not want to work with the kids but rather behind the scenes because kids made me uncomfortable. Whether it was helping with organizing the storage room, painting walls, picking up donations, or wrapping gifts for Christmas, I wanted to help.
After a while, I heard we did not have a consistent volunteer leader for the fifth and sixth grade girls and I felt God telling me that is where I needed to be. Without hesitation, I volunteered to fill that spot, even though I was still uncomfortable being around kids. So, in 2019, I started volunteering with the girls in fifth and sixth grade on Monday nights. At first the girls did not believe I was going to show up consistently and tried to test me. When they realized I was sticking to my word, they began to trust me. RHK has been a great experience in my life, and I look forward to the Monday nights I volunteer.
I volunteer with Rock House Kids because I see how God uses them for good, and I believe consistency is important for children. They need to see someone is there and able to help walk through life with them; no matter what happens in their lives there is a place for them and someone safe, consistent, and ready to listen - Rock House Kids.
