RHK Teen Perspectives - February 2025

Writer: Rock House KidsRock House Kids

Recently, we sat down with two of our awesome teens, sisters, and asked them how RHK has made a difference in their lives. Last month we heard from DK, and this month we highlight DA, her younger sister.

Tell us a little about yourself.

DA: Hi, I’m a freshman in high school, and I’ve been coming to RHK since I was in the 5th grade. Our cousin told us about Rock House Kids. We fell in love with it and just never stopped coming.

What keeps you coming to RHK?

DA: I come because I feel like it’s my safe space. I feel very safe here and love all the people who come here. They make me feel like I can be myself and have fun while building a relationship with God. Being here builds my character and teaches me a lot of life lessons. I want to thank all the adults at RHK because, technically, they really don’t have to be here. They choose to be here because they love us. Many people would not take time out every week just to come and help teenagers grow and help us become the adults we will soon be in a few years. They are very caring. Their being here makes us feel like we can talk to them about anything going on in our life that we don’t want to share with others we don’t know we can trust.

What plans do you have for the future?

DA: I want to be a psychologist. I want to help people, specifically children with trauma and PTSD they experienced in their childhood, and help them grow to become better people before they become adults.

How has RHK made a difference in your life?

DA: All the skills I learned from Rock House Kids have helped me handle situations better. Don’t just go about doing things. You have to trust God and pray about it because you might end up making the wrong decision otherwise. It has also helped me become a better person and understand people better. Rock House has taught me to be more caring and precise with the words I say. You have to trust God. He will always be there for us, and HE will always be the one. Even if there’s nobody you feel you can trust, you can trust God.

What is one thing you have learned at RHK?

DA: One lesson I have learned from being here is that God loves you, and He would never leave you, even if you leave Him first.
