Expansions and Renovations

Computer Lab

The first part of our expansion is complete and the timing could not be more perfect! Our kids need more help than ever as they are left to navigate “distance learning” due to the recent school closures. Very few of our kids have the assistance, resources and internet access to continue their studies and are falling far behind. The computer lab will be an important addition to our program and serve many purposes. The kids will be able to get help with their homework, have the ability to access the internet for research, search for jobs, get assistance with resumes and learn programs essential for their future. The computers were gifted to us by Computers for Schools. We would not have accomplished this without the help of our generous volunteers who put in countless hours and provided their expertise with painting, flooring, electrical and plumbing. We THANK YOU!

Kitchen Renovation

The kitchen has been in need of an update for some time and it finally came to fruition thanks to our very generous donors: Bradley and Georgann Gummow Family Foundation - $25,000, The Mill Foundation - $10,736.96, and the Kiwanis Charities of Rockford, Inc. - $5,088.03. It looks better than we ever imagined! This upgrade to a commercial-grade kitchen is refreshing and long overdue. Even with the classification of a warming kitchen, it had a “mom and pop”, dated feeling. We serve meals four nights a week to some very hungry children. We also have a lot of volunteers in the kitchen area that help serve the meals to the kids and this will make the whole meal time process easier and more efficient.

Sneak Peak - What's Next?

Looking ahead…We are making plans on expanding the final section of our building but in order to make it usable space, it needs a LOT of work. Carpentry, drywall, electrical, plumbing, flooring, paint, and more will be needed to fulfill our visions.

Lounge/Game Room with additional classrooms – this will be a multi-purpose area equipped with a library, a game room, lounge area with a collaborative workspace and four new classrooms that will allow for an additional 60 kids.

Recreational Area – this will include a gymnasium, a sound area, and a full projection screen.

Are you a contractor who can provide materials and work at a reduced rate or even free? Are you a handyman willing to share your skills? We can use any and all help in bringing this old section back to life and improving our program by providing our kids with this much-needed technology.
