On Monday and Wednesday nights at Rock House Kids 200+ at risk children come through our doors each week. We focus on first graders through sixth graders. We start by feeding the kids a hot meal. We then gather all together to sing, receive announcements, and hear an encouraging word from Dola Gregory, one of our Adult Leaders or the video curriculum that we have donated to us. We then break into age appropriate small groups and teach the kids Biblically based principles like honesty, patience, faithfulness, and generosity. Our volunteers who teach and build relationships with these children are what makes Rock House Kids the success that it is. The at risk children we see each week are in desperate need of mentors like these.
On Tuesday nights, we are open just for Teens (seventh grade through high school)! We have separate volunteers who teach the teens moral character traits, advise them on how to staying in school, what options are available after they graduate, and family planning.
After lesson time is over, we send them home with bags full of kid friendly single serving non perishable items to have throughout the week to help them with their nutritional needs.
Also offered is free tutoring during the school year. We offer this before we start our Monday and Wednesday programs. The kids can receive help with their school work with those volunteers that come each week. All free of charge! Having a one on one tutoring session helps the child meet special needs that they might not be able to receive at home or elsewhere. We have seen so many children’s grade improve. When a child shows us an improvement in their report card, we make sure to reward them!
